Three Mistakes To Avoid When Moving Locally To A New Apartment

Everybody changes their residence sooner or later, but this is especially true with people living in apartments. If you are living in an apartment and haven't moved in a while, but find yourself moving to a new place, there are a few mistakes that you need to avoid in order to make your move as smooth as possible.

Spending too much time looking for boxes

Everybody needs boxes when they move, but most people spend too much time looking for them. In the end, you will probably have some boxes to use but not enough. The boxes will be of different sizes, and some of them may not be as clean as you may want them to be. It is better to simply buy brand new boxes. It is best to buy two or three sizes, so you can stack them up when you move them. They are affordable and can be easily purchased at a local storage facility or truck rental company. After you are through moving, you can keep them for future use.

Making several trips instead of one

It is often tempting to make several trips with a pickup truck instead of one trip with a larger, rental truck. This is usually a mistake, especially if you are working on a deadline of when you must be moved out. It is better to load everything into a single truck and move to your new location. If you get tired or run into a delay, you can lock the rental truck and continue unloading in the morning.

Waiting until the last day or two to rent your truck

If you wait too long to get your truck, it is possible that you may not get the truck you want. Depending upon the time of the month or the day of the week, you may not get a truck at all. The end of the month and weekends are both high periods of local moving. The best course of action is to reserve your truck in advance. Also, make sure you get a hydraulic lift in the back of the truck and don't forget a dolly. Even if you have a dolly you use at home, you need a large one that is capable of moving a refrigerator. You can use it for large items even if you're not moving a refrigerator. You can still use it for smaller items as well.

Along with the three mistakes to avoid listed above, try not to wait until the last minute to pack your belongings. If you start a couple of weeks before the move, you will have time to throw out your junk and donate unwanted times, making your move much easier.
